The effort of swapping them around on all my VM DDs have caused a massive ship training mess. However, this caused me problems, as all ships I had in the original line had their captains replaced with 4 with identical portraits so that I couldn't tell any of them apart. In theory this would have been good for me, given a free jump up a tier, and a bunch of captains too. It got bumped up to the hell that's tier 8, and I was given the Tier IX Tashkent as compensation. The Kiev used to be one of my favorite DDs, ultra fast and in the golden tier 7. The IJN DD line as a whole does not support the gunship role, so I had no desire to see where the line could lead. So I went no where with the new IJN DD line. A ship I had already grinded as a torpedo boat at tier 7, and was not thrilled at the prospect of re-grinding a ship I had already finished as some kind of gunboat. Is it a torpedo boat? Is it a gunship? There's no reason for me to sail the ship, the line split gave me the Hatsuharu. After the split, it was put into the IJN Gunship line, so after a couple dozen rounds of the ship, I no longer know what the ship is capable of. Let's take the IJN DD for example, I remember the Minekaze has one of the best torpedo boats in the game. However, these line splits mess all that up. It may take months or years, but gradually they learn through linear progression. The player however, only really goes down a line once. More then that, you learn what all the ships are capable of when you fight them. When you go down a line, you learn from the ground up what the ships are all about. I realize I'm going against the grain when I say I don't think the ship lines being split are being handled well.
